Mom in the BluebonnetsMom in the Bluebonnets   
Even on her knees,  She towers over the bluebonnets,  Agile fingers laced upon one knee  Smiling at the camera.  Her visor shades her eyes;  She wears paint-streaked jeans  And an old T-shirt  Under a faded flannel.  Her wedding ring glints on her hand.   
Then there are the things  
I cannot see, but know are there.  There is a tiny gold razorback  
On a chain at her throat,  A tribute to her home state.  I know there’s a pistol in a holster  On the back of her jeans, a .357  Filled with snakeshot  In case we mee Mom in the Bluebonnets

Winter crept into town last night…  I walk through the smell of cold on the wind.  I have switched out my green fleece jacket  
For my soft black leather coat, and I  
Zip it up after a few minutes outside.  My ears tingle and ache with cold.  Though it’s only seven, no one is out but us,  Though the streets held people short nights ago.  Dark spots of water speckle the pavement  Like the spots on a die, so perfectly spaced.  I snug my hands in warm deep pockets  And walk faster, turning back towards home  As it begins to drizzle.  I can’t Winter

Slipping AwaySlipping Away   
He, who so loves learning, can no longer  Turn the pages of a book or hold one flat  So I burn songs, audiobooks, podcasts to CDs  Over 200 hours of noise for him to listen to  Because I am helpless to do anything else.   
I remember him working on car engines,  
Playing chess with me, answering all my questions  About science and life and everything else.  I remember him teaching me to shoot, and  
Spending long shivering hours in deer blinds.   
But the strong biceps that I remember  Are no bigger around than a half-dollar  And he cannot lift a Slipping Away

After a long period of no inspiration, I've started sketching again. It's mostly geometric patterns, nothing special, but hopefully something interesting will come of it.
On the other hand, I've been writing a lot lately (mostly for Creative Writing - Poetry assignments), and I'll try to post some of that over the next few days.

No problem. I've been working on my digital art, but I'm mostly at the level of tracing and using solid blocks of color. Hopefully, I'll have some time to practice this summer.
